It Was Fifty Years Ago Today

Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play. Marathon Pundit recalls the formation of the Beatles at Woolton Parish.

And when McCartney stood across that patch of churchyard grass on an improbably sunny Saturday -- July 6, 1957 -- his gaze locked onto a stranger, John Lennon, who was standing atop a wagon-float, leading his garage combo, the Quarrymen, through a bunch of instantly forgettable covers.

Nothing follows.

Something to believe in, the Ramones.
From YouTube...
Green or mean?

"Something To Believe In"

I wish I was someone else
I'm confused, I'm afraid, I hate the loneliness
And there's nowhere to run to
Nothing makes any sense, but I still try my hardest

Take my hand
Please help me man
'Cause I'm looking for something to believe in
And I don't know where to start
And I don't know where to begin, to begin

If I was stupid or naive
Trying to achieve what they all call contentness
If people weren't such dicks and I never made mistakes
Then I could find forgiveness

Take my hand
Please help me man
'Cause I'm looking for something to believe in
And I don't know where to start
And I don't know where to begin, oh no

I can't be someone else
I don't feel that it's hopeless
I don't feel that I'm useless

I can't throw it all away
I need some courage to find my weakness
And with your love, I know with all my heart I can win

'Cause I'm looking for something to believe in
And I just need something to believe in
I'm looking for something to believe in
And I just need something to believe in

---------------

The Ramones did this as a parody a long time ago.

It was 40 years ago this august I took a double dose of Owsley purple flats acid and listened to "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band ". A year later I was humping an M79 in Duc Hoa district, northwest of Saigon. Two of the guys I got high with are long deceased from drug scourged lives.I never saw the other guy again. He may have his own Beatles story to tell.
