Heather Mills taped Paul McCartney

He Hit Me, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah: “Heather Mills has taped evidence to back up claims that Sir Paul McCartney physically attacked her, say friends. … ‘It has never been Heather’s intention to use the tapes, which she feels prove that Paul raised his hands to her, but if she has to, she will. It is dynamite stuff and if used, really could destroy Paul.’

Commentary

The line from King Kong springs to mind: "It wasn't the planes that got him, it was Beauty killed the Beast." But maybe Neil Sedaka is better though maybe it's unfair to Heather Mills. Still, many a man who would fear nothing else very often gets taken down by a woman.

Oh, run Samson run, Delilah's on her way
Run Samson run, you ain't got time to stay
Run Samson run, on your mark you better start
I'd sooner trust a hungry lion
Than a gal with a cheatin' heart

Oh, this is delicious tabloid, but truly it makes me sad how dysfunctional the talented achievers can be.

A close friend knows a couple in the Beatle family and attests to how it's all relative in their world of celebrity. While women can fell men, Wretchard, sometimes famous men are beasts who can lose out when they don't consider themselves "normal" and don't mind not being mindful:

Yesterday,
All my troubles seemed so far away,
Now it looks as though they're here to stay,
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Suddenly,
I'm not half the man I used to be,
There's a shadow hanging over me,
Oh, yesterday came suddenly.

Why she
Had to go I don't know, she wouldn't say.
I said,
Something wrong, now I long for yesterday.

There's a good chance Paul did more than just say something wrong. While the taping of private affairs is insidious, so may be another's lying and defamation regarding same private affairs.

Catherine,

I don't know what to think. Maybe Paul McCartney's a wifebeater. I'd be disappointed, but it's not impossible. Then again he has a lot of money and money creates a kind of gravitational pull that warps all the space around it.

Character and celebrity are not obviously connected. Just today the biography of an Australian celebrity was published portraying him as both a great man and a creep. Today Keith Urban checked into rehab. What can I tell you?

Who knows?

Wretchard and Talnik,

I think you have it right. If you're following this like me, you're only glancing at the atrocious headlines the two and their attorneys are creating. One of them has to be lying and engaged in character assassination, and maybe both of them are.

At least this much is clear- it's all about the $$$$$.

It may just be that money isn't everything.

How nice it is see over and over again that the U.S. is a nearly classless society (those who see classes tend to see victims everywhere, "victims" who when asked say "they must mean someone else").

The love of a good (wo)man, a job that rewards and respects you, children who share your values, and a government that largely stays out of your life make it hard to imagine that an average american (even those barely above poverty (who may or may not know that they are living as well or better than most europeans) would choose to trade their lives for "Sir Paul's." Like me, they probably feel sorry for, perhaps even pity him.

Ari Tai, good for you and many of us! I meant that money seems to be fueling the ugliness in this particular case. Hate to suspect this, but perhaps even divorce lawyers gin up more problems than there have to be in the interest of fees and publicity.

I simply deplore the double standard that allows a woman to ruin a man with lies and make false accusations of rape, child molestation, violence, sodomy, or you name it, while the man is instantly presumed guilty. There is so little risk to the women and such a high burden of proof on the man and such a large potential gain that this system seems rigged. I would say that when a woman is found guilty of such a deception, the punishment should be for greater that that of the false charge and that a few well publicised examples are called for.

My guess is that Ms. Mills is a gold digger, and I always though McCartney's work was exceptionally mediocre.

Putnam,

Unconscionable smears have been an 'equal opportunity' practice since the dawn of human sentience, or at least since The Fall, and especially since divorce court. All too often women aren't given the benefit of the doubt when it comes to malicious gossip intended to defame and discredit. But I would agree that false allegations of any kind should carry stiff penalties.

The truth in the McCartney's case is unknowable at this point. You could be right, or not. As for me, I'm rooting for music past and civility forward.

Skank is correct. He was married forever to Linda Eastman and nary a word. Now this hobbling skank comes along and smears him.

Here's a terrible un-PC truth. Can you handle the truth?! Some women get beat up more than others. Now before you get your panties in a twist let me say that does not justify hitting a woman. My sisters behaved abysmally growing up but I was not allowed to lay a hand on them under ANY circumstances.

But certain women conduct their lives in such a way that invites the wrath of others. They are train wrecks waiting to happen. They leave only chaos in their wakes. And if you find yourself in the thrall of such a woman (or man for that matter) there is only ONE way to deal with them. GET THE HELL OUT OF DODGE!!!

It strikes me as odd that, in a case where the complainant has made use of a digital video recorder in support of her claims, the recording which purports to "make" the case for physical abuse is audio.

I think that Paul McCartney and Linda need to have others see why they were successfully married. I
'm having trouble tracing it.

Heather's faults were not gold digging, but a leg amputation.

Why Paul married her, is difficult to determine. I sometimes want answers to why men marry at all?

My therapist said I'd be another Linda, so try and tell Paul that he needs to live with me, and then see what happens. Good idea, except that I'm morally a catholic, and need to think about it.

Now why Mills taped Paul McCartney, hmmmmmmmmmm because she was sort of mean. Paul just couldn't stop loving a woman like linda, and so he got sick of heather.
