The Belmont Club will move to a new site

The Belmont Club will move to a new site. There'll be announcement when the move is imminent. There are two reasons for the move. The first reason is to improve proximity to a community of pundit which will probably be congenial to readers. The second is that Blogger, though it has served me well, is limited in its extensibility. Many of the problems inherent in managing trolls and delivering ancilliary services are dependent on what the blogging platform will allow. Blogger has been good to me. But soon it will be time to say goodbye.

There will be ample notice before the move is made. I hope that these changes will improve the service to a community that I have come to know and appreciate. Sometimes change can be disruptive, and this prospective move will doubtless create its share of glitches. But change is inevitable with growth. We will survive.

The Belmont Club is supported largely by donations from its readers.

Just don't ever delete the blogger blog, lest the url be overtaken by vendors of male enhancement products or their ilk.

I'll freeze comments across the site on the last day.

Wretchard:

Moving Belmont Club to a new site where you can better control comment access shows wisdom. However I am annoyed at some of the commentators here for allowing themselves to be seduced by trolls. We should have shown better self control.

Do whatever you need, Richard.
I just hope
a) You don't somehow get lost in the clutter of a group site,
and
b) we stand a chance of securing the same login names (more or less).

Good decision. I will always read, even if I decline commentary.

Thank you, Wretchard, for a very challenging and engaging spot on the web.

yep -- day in and day out, year in and year out, Wretchard's writing, style & substance alike, is simply superb.

So it's not my imagination and there *are* trolls. Whew.

Agree with the comment about being buried on a group site. Please try to stay singular.

Other than that, change is good and we shall overcome. Onwards. Upwards. Lead on, MacDuff.

I hope it's more successful than its first off-Blogger move...

I just wanted to take this opportunity to say how much I enjoy your writing, Wretchard. I hardly ever comment, but I read your blog nearly every day.

Please do whatever makes The Belmont Club continue to be something fun and challenging for you so that you keep writing.

Looking forward to the new site.

I hope the RSS feed for the new location will include article bodies. The recent shift to absolutely no content other than titles in RSS makes you less likely to be read than necessary.

Assalamu Alilkum Wa Rahmatulah Wa Barakatuh

The Belmont can not stop Islam by hiding. It shows great cowadice.

Would everyone please email blogger asking for a tool that a site administrator could use to block a commenter that is determined to destroy a blog site.

Kudlow had to suspend comments on his site because of the unsolvable problem from the blogger platform. His site is not the same.

The character of the Belmont Club would be diminished by the loss of reader participation with the end of comments.

It should be a simple matter for blogger to issue that tool.

This is excellent news. Glad to hear it wretchard. I was happy to follow after the last move, and will gladly do so again.

2164 is right about Kudlow -- when the morons finally swamped the site, it lost a half dozen truly valuable voices -- rufus, sharp, others. Good discussions, great links, all gone because of a few dedicated idiots determined to ruin the comments section.

Wherever you go...

Regardless, it is kinda time to loose the 'FallbackBellmont' domain, eh...

Obviously, keep things posted. I hope the target site isn't one with a large number of writers who get lost in the mix. If so, try to make yourself visible.

Maybe the LongWarJournal, eh...

I would like to echo the above comments.

Wretchard, your analysis is some of the best on the net today. You truly get what is happening and can explain it in a way I wish our leadership could.

I would also say that some of the most insightful comments are when you (Wretchard) follow up or respond in the comment section - do try to keep the comment feature.

Seconds to all the Silent Majority here - I try not to let a day go by without spending an hour or two here in the Club - Wretchard and all the regulars have the best and broadest insights into world affairs that I have found anywhere - I'll be hitting the tip jar when my next bag of money appears!!! Cheers to BC!

We view Wretchard's erudite and literate postings as an oasis of sanity and (dare we say) gentlemanly views. Couldn't even spell half the names ourselves, but we do catch Wretchard's drift.

Never have understood the motivation of trolls, etc.-- why not post something interesting and useful to others of thy persuasion, rather than bleat and moan on a serious, well-mannered, invariably informative web-site? We wish you well, but really: Wouldn't your time be better spent elsewhere?
