The theology student of Qom

Where is Moqtada al Sadr? I follow the clues at Pajamas Media.

Nothing follows.

Maybe Haji on the street has figured out that Mookie has lost it and Mookie knows it. Security begets confidence and the Iraqi street is becoming confident in its ability to control its own (maybe only immediate and proximate) future. This means Mookie's alternative is becoming less and less acceptable.

Better a cushy theological sabbatical with a new wife than dodging bullets and car bombs in Sadr City.

I think he's retired.

From the PJM article: As the “student” arrives in a bulletproof limousine with heavily armed guards, his teachers, ignoring that he’s two hours late, greet him deferentially.

Doesn't this say it all? Elitism, aristocracy and privilege all rolled into one. Sadr, like the vast majority of Islamic clergy, is only in it for the perks of power.

There is no devotion, no commitment, no loyalty, no faithfulness. All that there is can be chalked up to a naked Hillaryesque lust for power. Not the power to incur change, but the power of position that confers privilege, wealth, preference and contol.

Perish the thought that Sadr might have any interests of the "little man" in mind. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

At day's end, it is this sort of elitism that will cause Islam to collapse in upon itself. Sadly, the West has no such luxury to placidly await such an inevitable outcome. Our task is to speed that catastrophic decomposition with all due haste lest we ourselves be part and parcel of such idiotic self-inflicted damage.

Muqtada Al Sadr is alive. That, in and of itself, could be viewed as a life changing accomplishment, or minor miracle. At such times men can be expected to turn to religious endeavors as clearly a higher power must have been at work to save his behind so many times in such target rich environs.
He's not retired, just taking a very, very long vacation.
