Shields Up, Scottie

Tim Blair reports on John Smeaton, the baggage handler at Glasgow airport who helped the cops tackle the terrorist attackers. "You’re nae hitting the Polis mate, there’s nae chance.” I think part of Smeaton's appeal lies in his spontaneity. There is nothing so dreary as the official spokesman attempting to say as little as possible with a politically restricted vocabulary and largely succeeding. “Come to Glasgow and we'll set about ye"

Nothing follows.

www.bbc.co.uk/newsnight

interview with a former friend of one of the accused doctors (from 2 yrs ago, when he was at Cambridge).

click to watch latest prog, which starts with the interview.

I think the video is available outside UK. In case not, some highlights:

"...he actively cheered the deaths of british and american troops in Iraq... but also supported the sectarian conflict and supported the Sunni attacks on the Shias.... one of his best friends has been killed by a shia militia gang when he was a medical school."

"...feeded off the idealogical infrastructure.."

"...he was very very strict in terms of how he carried himself in relation to [al zarqawi]. To give an example of that, he was in a flat-share at the time but he didn't know the other guy living there -- a muslim, but he was non-practicing, didn't pray five times a day, he played the guitar, and this was something Abdullah found absolutely outrageous. Abdullah basically one day went and got him, brought him into his room and said, 'you better start praying fives times a day and, whatever happens, you better stop playing the guitar'. He was adamant about this, to the point where he put one of his dvd's on, of Al Zarqawi beheading a hostage, and he said, 'if you don't, this is what we do -- we slaughter.'"

"...there were a number of Muslim takewaways, halal shops, which he would refuse to go to because he had doubts about their Islamic commitment. For example he never saw owners of a local takeaway at the mosque, so would refuse to eat from them."

Some dangerous baggage got handled and rerouted-- hurray for Mr. Smeaton and the other citizens who reacted to the emergency threat bravely and, true to good character, reflexively. Isn’t it a wonder, though, that Smeaton is now being lauded as a Superman on Youtube, because the fight-back, subduing action he took is considered so exceptional among the general population? Even amang the stalwart Scots??

Shit, if that had occurred in Texas, the terrorists would have been shot dead by Concealed Handgun Licensees before the police knew something was up.

Smeaton gives voice to the thought of the common man. While Scottish he personifies the words of Pete Townsend's English Boy.

Red River - Shit, if that had occurred in Texas, the terrorists would have been shot dead by Concealed Handgun Licensees before the police knew something was up.

The difference would be that if it was Texas, the Muslims would have guns, too. And they would have shot to pin people down long enough to get their fireball car into the terminal.

Gun nuts have their wet dream about their beloved greased up piece solving all "terrahist kinda problems", but I don't want anyone on a plane having a loaded weapon other than the Marshall or pilots in the cockpit. I don't want some untrained Rambo wannabe blasting away in an airport terminal.

Public polls show that strong preference. Even among NRA members like me, few NRA want people including Muslims with clean records free to "pack" loaded weapons onto planes or into airport terminals.

Anyways, cheers to the Scottie who got a chance to lay about the Islamoid's head right proper. If they had only sold tickets to the beating!
And minor kudos to the Scots yelling "let the bastard burn!". Not that Britain's elites were listening...but it shows the average Brit is waking up and rejecting multiculti and PC rules for "preserving terrorist's sacred civil liberties".
