The Signs of the Times

Now that the London Olympic logo has been blamed for causing epileptic seizures or depicting a sex act between the Simpsons, its defenders have been pointing to the controversy as a sign of its brilliance. The Design Observer has a roundup of British media reactions together with this gem.

"The website suggests you download bits for children to colour in. When animated it has an edginess not normally associated with the Olympics." The Independent reports the existence of two petitions devoted to supporting the logo, noting among other things that "... they attracted 70 signatures in total, many of which seemed false including Ms. Lisa Simpson, of Springfield, USA." The gist of the arguments from the logo’s champions is that it at least the marque has the virtue of stirring up debate and controversy.

Well, of course the media would consider stirring up controversy a virtue.

As long as it didn't interfere with their agenda.

OK, I'm feeling especially cynical right now. But am i wrong?

I, for one, think the graphic appropriate. After all, isn't a major portion of the UK now semi-permanently head-over-heels atumble?

If a people have become so set in their ways they will not change, why not at least 'celebrate their separateness'?

Gotta lov'em, tho, even in their stubborness.

Cheers
