You Can Run But You Can't Hide

One of the reasons people join clandestine organizations is the mistaken belief that it offers an escape from the routine chickenshit of human existence. But the reality is that after crossing several frontiers, fording angry and cold rivers, trekking up mountain passes into the rarefied air and after long nights under the wheeling stars the acolyte of terror still comes face to face with the personnel form.

Here's a link to Jose Padilla's al-Qaeda application form from CBS News. Headed "New comers form" it asks questions like "how much of the Koran did you memorize?" There's a space to indicate hobbies. It asks about any relevant combat experience and closes with this boilerplate: "I, the undersigned ... attest that the aforementioned information is correct ... as Allah is my witness."

Does it seem weird to anyone other than me, that one can walk in to your local Afghani madrassa and incompletely fill out a form and be a jihadi the next day?

Sounds like AQ's vetting process in on par with the State Dept's VISA application review.

Maybe, there is hope after all!

AQ will be crushed under the weight of their own bureaucracy!

btDon't you suppose there's both sexual harassment and hazing among the might mujahadeen? Given their delicate sensibilities, one wonders what forms that might take. And if American or Aussie Taliban/terrorists like John Walker Lindh or David Hicks suffer more or less than the normal Islamist goat-herder.

I think most of the information is captured in the "who sent you here?" question. Answer: Abu al Feda. Plus the fact that he had gone through Saudi Arabia and Yemen. Kinda like saying, I think, that you've graduated from West Point and are now reporting to Infantry School.

Infidels will be fired for falsifying the aspplication. The only problem is that being fired is such a permanent thing.

Is there an opt-out clause if you don't want to be in the pension plan?
