Hail! Hail! The Gang's All Here

Talk Left takes Rahm Emmanuel to task for daring to suggest that the Democrats keep their liberal wing quiet on Iraq.

But Rahm Emanuel is no boy wonder and he made his share of blunders, most notably wasting 3 million dollars on Tammy Duckworth while not funding or underfunding Dem challengers in other closers races all over the country. Indeed, it goes to one of Emanuel's biggest problems - his supreme ego and hubris. He carefully cultivated and cared for his own image in this cycle, causing needless rancor in the Dem ranks.

And he seems intent on continuing that negative aspect of his style and actions. This statement is simply unnecessary:

In private talks before the election, Emanuel and other top Democrats told their members they cannot allow the party's liberal wing to dominate the agenda next year.

What does that mean? Does that mean Emanuel wants to ignore Iraq as he did earlier this year? Or has he learned his lesson on that? Emanuel is something to worry about for Dems. A loose cannon with some bad instincts.

Congratulations Rahm, but go sit down and be quiet for a while.

Commentary

The old shout at the Hall was always, "what are we in power for?". Even if the rank and file were shushed on the subject of withdrawing from Iraq until after the elections were over, what is the need for quiet now. The prize is won. Hoist the Jolly Roger. All together now with the immortal lines from the Pirates of Penzance.

With cat-like tread,
Upon our prey we steal;
In silence dread,
Our cautious way we feel.
No sound at all!
We never speak a word;
A fly's foot-fall
Would be distinctly heard--

...Republicans will be competing for minority leadership posts as they prepare to go into the opposition in the 110th Congress.

"We will start the 110th Congress [with] what appears to be 13 seats short of a majority, so the first thing is we will have to make the adjustments of [having] the status of the minority party," said Congressman Tom Reynolds, a New York Republican who held on to his House seat in Tuesday's election.

Bush is a divider not a uniter... this tactic of non-cooperation has served the Democrats well. Why not hoist the flag and let the triple shot loose from the broad sides. A pent up wave of frustration has just been lifted for a disenfranchised yooth. Now there will be some grumbling over the plunder soon, but hold fast mateys til USS GOP's decks are awash.

The Dem's economic plan can also be neatly summed up in poetry:
Tax not you
and tax not me,
Tax that guy
Behind the tree...

Tax relief, Bush swears we got.
Rich guys did, but we did not.

Perhaps the Democrat plan is to do nothing until we lose our country, culture and civilization to Islamofascists. Little Green Footballs has an article about the first Muslim extremist elected to the United States Congress, another result of this election: Minnesota’s new Democrat Congressman, former Nation of Islam spokesperson Keith Ellison

"The first Muslim elected to the United States Congress is a Democrat from Minneapolis with ties to an Islamic group that supports terrorism and a radical cult whose leader says God will destroy the entire white race and establish a paradise nation ruled by blacks."

Well, since the top 10% of wage earners pay about 2/3 of all federal income taxes, and the top 50% pay about 95% of the tab, this sounds about right.

And I'm not one of the rich. Just happy for the economic stimulus we get in return for letting producers keep more of what they produce. Added "benefit" -- tax receipts are up as a result of an expanding economy, as well.

But, we're fast reaching a tipping point the ancients warned us about -- when a significant enough portion of the population effectively pays no taxes and/or becomes addicted to various covert and overt transfer payments.

At that point, with political power secured by those who dole out the goodies to constituents who have an ever-increasing sense of entitlement and atrophied initiative, the looting of the treasury -- already well underway -- will proceed in earnest.
