Madeleine Albright speaks at Princeton: a follow-up note

Last week, I saw Madeleine Albright speak at Princeton, and wrote it up as a TigerHawk/Belmont Club exclusive. Now the video is up (scroll down to "4 pm Friday" and pick your favorite bandwidth). The video is worth watching for three reasons. First, Albright is, for better or for worse, the most well-known and probably the most serious foreign policy expert that the Democratic Party has. It is useful to listen to her, if for no other reason than to hear the "reasonable version" of the mainstream Democratic criticism of United States foreign policy under Bush. And, frankly, she has a number of interesting observations that she would not have made on a Sunday news show and which I failed to capture in my notes. Second, at 56:45, you can hear what she says about Kim Jong-Il, which is hilarious. Third, at 47:30, you can hear me -- TigerHawk -- ask her the best question I could muster about the Clinton administration's policy toward Iran. That alone is worth the price of admission.

Thanks for your most excellent posts and commentary in Wretchard's absence. He chose well in you and we all were enriched by your company.

I have chosen to use the Madeleine Albright speech for my Bus Com assignment(remedial) class assignment to critic a speaker.

Rich target environment!

The North Koreans pressured her into signing a document stating the US had no hostile intent while she was there, eh? Interesting. Didn't know about that one.

They must have been walking back from the runway laughing and high-fiving each other after watching her take off to fly back to the US.

1. Nice handle. Thanks for Poitiers.

2. I felt the need to educate the audience. Didja note that the good Secretary quite candidly admitted my observation that her apology was met with a "stiff arm?" Actually, she handled that question more directly than I expected, and on review of the video I decided that she gave a more complete answer than I thought hearing it live.

Sam's comment is pertinent to my point:
Why should we believe ANYTHING this thing says?
On Hannity Show, she REPEATEDLY asserted that bin Laden could not have been picked up from Sudan. (massaged it into "They did not offer him to us.")
Despite the fact that Bill Clinton was captured on tape categorically putting the lie to that assertion in his description of his options the actions he took, or rather did not take regarding that incident.
A caller to Limbaugh reminded us how she effectively functioned as Defense Secretary for a while as she acted out her personal feelings wrt Bosnia.
Made me think about how unsettling to Russia and other countries this country can appear, in that every four or 8 years the deck is reshuffled, last coming up with two Jokers like Clinton and Halfbright.
The Media Blackout on the Christian Church Burnings by the RoP is another scandal perpetrating the lie as seen from our PC perverted perspective.
Russia lives with a different reality.

Poitiers

Charles the Hammer was no Benedict Arnold, as Abd. er-Rahman would learn on the battlefield at Poitiers-Tours.

tigerhawk,

Charles Martel also did something that Ms. Albright and the Democrats are failing to do; i.e., rather than bemoaning the ineffectuality of his predecessors and peers, he created an alternative, indeed, a revolutionary alternative: Martel fielded a relatively disciplined, cohesive Frankish army, fighting on foot.

Pardon my failure to compliment your fine work here.

JK Galbraith and Halfbright share an extremely elitist perspective, imo.

Well, if she's got Joschka Fischer on her side, what's there to doubt?

Let's just get Jacques Chirac and Danny the Red, and we'll have a good old time.
