Pink Dawn

The Left plans a Tet against the Marines at Berkeley. The Emergency Peace-In Vigil alert begins: "Calling all peace-loving people! ... We need to protect our city from outside pro-war forces. We need to support our elected officials who represent our peace-loving stand. ... Bring your tent, sleeping bag, all your peace props, and hot pink fabric ..." Will the Marines be overwhelmed ...? Click read more to find out.

The anti-Berkeley council forces are on the move too. Here are the details.

Barbara Boxer and Barbara Lee are fighting the move to take money away from Berkeley. And I'm sure Obama and Hillary will be delighted to cast votes AGAINST the Marines and FOR Berkeley.

Democrats too must be delighted to give the GOP "Berkeley Values" and Code Pink campaign commercials not just for John McCain but their opponents in places like Tennessee and Georgia and Virginia.

This is a wonderful wedge issue in an election year. If I was a Republican presidential candidate I'd add it to every stump speech. Democrat Presidential Candidates who sought to defend Berkly would see there poll numbers plummet.

Can we get a picture of a few dozen Marines holding a banner reading "Berkeley is only allowed to be liberal because of the thousands of Marines who gave their lives at Iwo Jima"?

I'd stage mass protests on the streets of Berkeley... and then send in the Marines to defend them.

I WANT Hillary and Barack to support the brave City Council of Berkely California!

Anybody have a DailyKos account? We need to post a demand that "our" candidates need to defend Berkely against the jack-booted thugs attacking it.

The recent activities of Code Pinko's or whatever's this group is called are quite new to me. I always thought of them as having been formed specifically to lobby the Administration for an end to (or rather exit from) the Iraq war. Looks like they are principally opposed to a sovereign nation having a military, period? In any case, they have the right to that viewpoint I suppose.

However, I would like the members to explain fully what exactly they have against a military recruitment centre? Are they not aware that joining the military is voluntary? Do they have a booth set up to refer potential recruits to local government offices where student loans for college can be found (if, as they seem to allude, potential recruits are just poor and uneducated children).

Of course they don't. Like any other group whose fuel is agi-prop, they thrive on publicity. Well, then I say give it to them. When they deface government property (or any property) with spray paint, charge them with vandalism, impose and COLLECT the fine. When they block the centre staff from entering their place of work, charge them with criminal trespassing. Were is the local police force to enforce the basic law that would apply to any convenience store or bakery to stop some nut from blocking or harassing customers from going inside? Is the breach of the law not even worth the time of the local beat cops anymore? If not, can anyone go down to the local Code Pink office and set up shop with a bullhorn and scream at the staff all day as well?

Their national commercials and campaigns are one thing, they can spend their money however the heck they want, but this on-the-ground harassment and intimidation can surely be stopped by simple application of local by-laws, can’t it?

Not much of a post, I know (more questions than comments), but this kind of thing really burns my cakes and a little venting never hurts!

I wonder if Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard or whatever it was has a "real" name? We have lots of streets named in memory of fallen policemen in our town - but we don't refer to them that way. It's still "38th Street."

I also notice we're supposed to show up at 5pm? But I work! Even if I got off at 5, would still take me an hour to get anywhere.

Oh wait - I get it now. L O L!

"Calling all peace-loving people! ...

There are two kinds of peace: peace under tyranny and peace under liberty. The former is of course an oxymoron. How much peace did the 20,000,000 murdered Ukrainians have under the peaceful administration of the Soviet Union. These unarmed and helpless citizens were murdered by their own government - so much for peace under tyranny.

Our courageous U.S. Marines are peace activists by making sure the United States has peace under liberty.

Code Pink followers, and their political supporters are cowards, because they will not put themselves into harm’s way in Afghanistan, Iraq, or Somalia to defend innocent life and liberty. These cowards will settle for peace at any price, which is, of course, peace under Tyranny.

Actually there is a third kind of peace, i.e. the peacefulness of a corpse as in "Rest in Peace". I'm a big believer in al Qaeda becoming "peaceful".

No, only to America having one. Our enemies are another matter entirely.

And now this:
TOLEDO, OH -- Mayor Carty Finkbeiner on Friday ordered some 200 members of Company A, 1st Battalion, 24th Marines from Grand Rapids, Michigan, out of Toledo just before the unit was suppose to start a weekend of urban warfare training downtown.

The mayor’s spokesperson Brian Schwartz said, “the mayor asked them to leave because they frighten people. He did not want them practicing and drilling in a highly visible area."

I used to live in Ohio. I'm embarrassed.
