Moral Vegetables

Samizdata notices how Yvonne Roberts at the Guardian urges people to boycott Israeli vegetables because of its human rights record and says, "I assume she also an avid campaigner for people to boycott products from Cuba, Burma, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, China (good luck doing that), Iran, Syria, Belorus, Zimbabwe, North Korea ... right?"

Wrong. "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines." Or so the saying goes. No one who is truly committed to a cause can believe that the rules which apply to others should hinder those bent on building a better Future. Or imagine that Cuba, Burma, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, China, Iran, Syria, Belorus, Zimbabwe, North Korea should ever be held to anywhere near the standard by which the Capitalist Jew must be held accountable. But it is important to inquire into which is the most objectionable aspect of Israel. The "Capitalist" part or the "Jew"? The "Capitalist" part of course, and that's why such boycotts are never anti-Semitic.

Yvonne Roberts is not an anti Semite, she's just an anti Zionist. Plus, she has Jooish friends, don't you know! (They always have Jooish friends).

I was dismayed with the NY Times headline: "Immigration Bill Provisions Gain Wide Support in Poll" I read the poll iself and have highlighted some of the actual questions here. the purpose of this headline was to influence legislators and demoralize opponents. Read some of the questions and see what is happening here. Please pass this on. This bill can be stopped.

These idiot boycotts are a favorite tactic of the left, because they feel good without requiring any real effort or sacrifice. But they necessarily have to be called against countries that have actual goods to be boycotted, which pretty much excludes all the real human rights abusing countries you named except China. Hmm. There's a lesson in there somewhere, yes?

Chinese food should NOT be smeared and maligned along with that of the Zionist Joos and those that have Zionist Joos as friend.

Zionist Joofood (as one might expect from those "thrifty" Zionist Joos) does not even contain supplements like Melamine, and other nutritious industrial byproducts, and manufacturing and biological wastes.

"We used it to make pet food. They used it to make fish meal," he told reporters.

Federal health and food officials have said some 20 million chickens and thousands of hogs also were fed feed contaminated by melamine. As with the fish, they said the risk to human health is very low.

U.S. investigators also have learned that the purported Chinese wheat gluten and a second ingredient, rice protein concentrate, were actually simple wheat flour. The flour was spiked with melamine and related, nitrogen-rich compounds to make it appear more protein rich than it was. In tests, nitrogen levels are measured to gauge the overall protein content of food ingredients.
