The Belmont Club will be moving on Monday, June 23 to this new site.
It's the weekend and so let's listen to the George Harrison classic, While My Guitar Gently Weeps performed on the ukelele by Jake Shimabukuro.

George Harrison's ghost takes out stalker brooklynvegan "Cristin Keleher, 34, made headlines in December 1999 by entering George Harrison's Maui estate and then cooking herself a frozen pizza. California police announced that her body had been found in Truckee with that of a 48-year-old man in a car. Both had gunshot wounds to their heads, according to a coroner's report." ]
I KNEW CRISTIN JOY KELLEHER AND SHE WAS A VERY SWEET 25 YEAR OLD GIRL WHEN SHE BROKE INTO GEORGES HOME ON MAUI .SHE WAS MENTALLY CHALLENGED AND UN EMPLOYABLE AND VERY BEAUTIFUL WHEN I MET HER ONE YEAR LATER.I COULD SEE WHALES IN HER BIG BLUE EYES.I FEEL VERY SORRY FOR HER.GEORGE DOES TOO.MAY SHE REST IN PEACE AND LOVE.Posted by kenny mix | January 2, 2007 2:59 PM CAPS LOCK MEANS I'M SERIOUSPosted by matty ice | January 2, 2007 4:35 PM Whales in her eyes? The hell does that mean?Posted by Alex in NYC | January 3, 2007 9:16 AM You know... "whales in her eyes," i.e., "large aquatic mammals in her line of sight." Isn't it obviously?! You people people really have monkeys in your ears sometimes.Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2007 11:15 AM This headline is not very funny.Posted by Aaronfromqueens | January 4, 2007 11:15 PM Sorry, this headline is not funny.
I knew Cristin in high school and was shocked when I heard what has happened. Cristin was a beautiful and very funny girl and friend. You would have to know her to understand the whales in her eyes comment. She had absolutely beautiful, vibrant very crystal blue eyes and a big smile. As far as the George Harrison "story" I don't believe she would have ever served any time had he not been attacked a week later.
I am going to guess Wretchard has already visited YouTube to enjoy the prodigious talent of this young man. For those haven't...Duet
Allen, but, but, what about the large aquatic mammals in her line of sight?
George, sitting like a yogi with japa beads in his bead bag for meditation on the Holy Names of Hare Krishna."...Mr. George Harrison, the famous English musician, who is my uninitiated devotee." "I think George does not require to become my formal disciple because he is already more than my disciple." ~ Srila Prabhupada
The music started last night with Whit over at the EB and continues here at the Belmont. Puts one in mind of Ocean City, NJ 1967. Start at Tony Marts' over at Sommers Point, on to Bay Shores and finish the night and bring on the day at The Dunes, Back to Tony Marts' and on it went..
Good to know,For a while there, I thought it was the day the music died.Whales in my eyes, or some such.
Do I what? will I what?Oh baby, you knoooow what I like!
Perhaps my favorite Beatles song...made even more sweet by memories of my girlfriend at the time. Thank you, Wretchard.
doug,re: what about the large aquatic mammals in her line of sight? Laser surgery does not seem an option, does it?

I dun had me a snail in my eyeonce but Ms Possum"Honeysuckle"Daisy dun lic it out for me. Then she got the snail out too

No white caps. No storms in the north pacific. I counted 30-40 spouts per hour for four hours. Some flukes and tail flaps, occasional breaches. My brother is a an elder in one of the historic hawaiian churches. ie there's more people in the graveyard than in the pews. its a burying church. few men in the choir. which tells you a lot. when people think of hawaiian dancers they think of women. when they think of hawaiian singers they think of men. its a congregationalist church. not as bsd as the episcopalians. they're just going with the flow.In sunday school i told the fat hawaiian women something I've said in several context this year "if you don't have any enemies then you become your own worst enemy." My own gut protrudes. We were discussing deuteronomy. One of the women said alas we don't get access to God like the old prophets. One of the great gifts of Jesus is to give us each individually in Him access to God. It used to be that only the high priest had access to God and then only once a year. This post called The Enlightenment: Anglo-American (Genesis) vs Franco-Germanic (Anti-Genesis) gives a pretty good schematic of how access to God--or lack there of has played out in the west for the last several hundred years.

Doug, I don't mean to be obscure.I weep when I hear Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole sing Somewhere Over The Rainbow I aint kiddin either. This guy's tenor just evokes this life and the next with the perfect desire that would make a 16 year old boy weep. But its not just him. I was dancing with my 8 year old niece at Turtle Bay Resorts and the bar singer was doing elvis darn near better than elvis.Hawaiian guys are world class tenors. imho the sign of a healthy church is bases & especially tenor standing before their God and singing his praise. When you have a congregation full of big hawaiian guys and a choir that's all women. (except for the pastor who has a great tenor voice too.) Something is not right. That's enough for one post. Anyone listening in catch the Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole voice. the uke isn't bad either. For now Israel I need to weep a little more. Play it.
The graphics on the previous post of Kamakawiwo'Ole's Somewhere Over The Rainbow were, I think, for American tourists. There were no people in the graphics but the graphics had a lot of American landscapes. In this version of Kamakawiwo'Ole's Somewhere Over The Rainbow all the graphics are Hawaiian. Judging by the size of the guy the reason he died was because he was carrying too much weight.
That is without a doubt, the best ukelele performance I have ever heard.
Here's elvis singing gospelwith a couple guys. Here's Elvis singing gospel solo.
Something big has been going on in Spain. Who knew?MASSIVE Rally Against Terrorism in Madrid!BracepunditToasted BreadToday the focus is ETA; but tomorrow, Spain may again become a vocal ally in the greater struggle.
Serious Inquiries OnlyUnless I am very much mistaken, Tigerhawk asks whether the greater display of T & A will play.
Charles,Agreed.Bach and Iz are two examples of perfection in my book....Bach had a little larger male audience in church, I would guess.
all men know this occasionaly happens, but rarely to Belmonteers.
I don't know how to bring this O/T up without being fired upon, but what the hell I'll martyr myself for the resistance™.
Charles,My wife worked at a place where Iz performed when he was still with a group called "The Sons of Niihau" (she thinks). This was over 15 years ago, and even then she said he had an oxygen bottle that he used after moving around.Too bad we all have our vices:Wish he were still here, but he sure left a gift.
Mike,If you choose to believe in magic/religion that is more bogus than Mohammed's, feel free!(we like to know who are mortal enemies are!)Talk about a suckers game:Bogus carbon tradeoffs so the elite can continue to guzzle while telling us prols to save up and pay up....as China and India laugh their way to the bank....and the World does whatever it will do REGARDLESS.
Limbaugh got a call from a retired NASA atmospheric scientist:He pointed out that CO2 is a minor greenhouse gas, by far the major one being WATER VAPOR.The effect of water vapor and the hydrologic cycle dwarf just about everything as far as heat balance and distribution, and they tend to stabilize the average temp of the world, yet the World continues to go through warm and cold cycles, since solar radiation dwarfs EVERYTHING Else, and the Sun goes through cycles.I recommend the book:"Unstopable Global Warming"which simply recounts the copious written record of warming and cooling cycles in relatively recent history, but long before the industrial revolution. The folks that farmed Greenland in times of plenty were almost a full foot taller than the people hanging on at the end of the last ice age!...but as the North Koreans show, either Communism or following Algore will result in the starvation of body and soul!France had laws restricting the importation of British Wines in the last warm spell when Britain could grow grapes where pasture now is about all.
The craziest part of the Global Warming Scam is that if the most draconian and economically devastating plans were put into effect, the result, even according to the high priests of far distant weather prediction, would be hardly measurable....as millions more starved in poverty. And US Sovereignty would be handed over to the tyrants of the World.
Doug--You know I lov ya--but you ain't thinkin' straight on temperatures, my friend.
Prove it, Farmer Bobal!(soon to be Real Estate Magnate Bobal)...ah, that's it:Part of your sales pitch will be that Ideehoe is great now, but will be unmatched soon with the Warming melting a lot of the year-round permafrost.I took Climatology from an Esteemed Fellow that became a member of Parliment in Australia, as Wretchard can attest. He was also featured in a cover story for Sports Illustrated, as"A New Breed of Environmentalist" (!)I Wrote a Paper for him in 1970 about how the SST was going to destroy the Ozone Zone and cause death and destruction....made most of it up and Fudged the rest just like they do today,(got an 'A') so I was ahead of my Time.
Better yet, point to any holes in my Stellar Arguments Above.
The Feds Currently Hand Out $6.9 Billion/yr for people to spin tales of Global Warming.Quite an incentive for mere mortals, esp morally challenged academicians.
"...you ain't thinkin' straight on temperatures, my friend."How do you know?
"ain't thinkin' straight"
"capitalism is not a religion."//////////////////////////////////....Better explain that to Mr. Chavez and his fellow Marxists, seems he is equating his ideology and those of his opponents to religion..."Those who want to go directly to hell, they can follow capitalism," Mr Chavez said in the town of Trinidad in Bolivia. "And those of us who want to build heaven here on earth, we will follow socialism," he added.
Doug, I know that you read it, what did you think I was saying? The piece pretty much stands on its own. The big hot thing out there is the engine in our little factory. Central heating as it were. The unstated message in the piece is that however much they (environmentalists) want to ballyhoo mankind's greatness, we still pale to insignificance next to nature.
Amen, Mike.I just wanted to suck in Bobal, you know how Gullible old farmers from the sticks are!
Penn and Teller are great.Penn used to write for PC Computing back in 1980 when people had DOS Laptops. One month he wrote about installing an autoexec.bat file that would do a countdown (to the "detonation") when they had you turn it on at the airline inspection! No longer a viable joke, even for Penn or Teller, I'm afraid.
Halliburton to Move Headquarters to DubaiThe energy services company will maintain a corporate office in Houston, but its chairman and chief executive will move.
The water vapour passes through the atmosphere. As it passes it picks up or loses heat to the atmosphere. Changes in the atmosphere thus change the water cycle.
unaha should know:He has a toilet in which the water spins down in the opposite direction to the rest of ours.(excluding the host)
The Medieval Warm Period (MWP) or Medieval Climate Optimum was a time of unusually warm climate in the North Atlantic region, lasting from about the tenth century to about the fourteenth century C.E.Global Warming before the Industrial Revolution – WTF?
Well here's my next Glowball Warning hit. Make sure to bring the popcorn.
Interesting how Penn and Teller influenced the reaction by their utilization of word choice or their ability to "frame the debate"Is this another instance? -Global Warming as a tool for Leftists (Transnational Progressives)1) Don't Think of an Elephant: Know Your Values and Frame the Debate The Essential Guide for... Progressives - by George Lakoff (Author), Howard Dean (Foreword), Don Hazen (Introduction)2) Bush Is Not Incompetent - by George Lakoff, Sam Ferguson, Marc Ettlinger ...Conservatives continue to deny the validity of global warming, because it runs contrary to their moral system. Recognizing global warming would call for environmental regulation and governmental efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Regulation is a perceived interference with the ...free market, Conservatives’ golden calf. 3) Global Warming's Globalist Backers - By J.R. Dunn...If UN efforts had anything to actually do with global warming, they would not consistently overlook China and India. The aim of all these schemes, from Annan's tax plans to the Kyoto Treaty to the climate change authority, is simply to...bridle the United States. If not to bring it under complete UN suzerainty, then to exercise some form of bureaucratic restraint over what the UN hierarchy has long viewed as an out-of-control colossus. The UN effectively controls many derelict third-world states (and even the occasional European example, such as Kosovo). Why not the U.S.? So we can probably leave any sort of global warming authority out of our future calculations. Excepting one possible case: we've previously pointed out here that environmentalism displays all the aspects of a pseudo-religion. And religions - as we've seen in recent years with the Jihadis - represent the sole existing example of a working transnational structure. A militant global environmentalist creed might very well be capable of pushing such a program through. It wouldn't necessarily establish a warming authority as much as it would become one, in and of itself. A very spooky possibility, if only because there are plenty of people in the U.S. who would welcome such a thing. So it might be worth keeping one eye on the situation. But no more than that. For a religion to spread in such a manner it would require a messiah. And the Greens, despite Al Gore's best efforts, don't have one of those yet. 4) The Ideological War Within the West - John Fonte...Talk in the West of a "culture war" is somewhat misleading, because the arguments over transnational vs. national citizenship, multiculturalism vs. assimilation, and global governance vs. national sovereignty are not simply cultural, but ideological and philosophical. They pose Aristotle's question: "What kind of government is best?" The challenge from transnational progressivism to traditional American concepts of citizenship, patriotism, assimilation, and the meaning of democracy itself is fundamental. If our system is based not on individual rights (as defined by the U. S. Constitution) but on group consciousness (as defined by international law); not on equality of citizenship but on group preferences for non- citizens (including illegal immigrants) and for certain categories of citizens; not on majority rule within constitutional limits but on power-sharing by different ethnic, racial, gender, and linguistic groups; not on constitutional law, but on transnational law; not on immigrants becoming Americans, but on migrants linked between transnational communities; then the regime will cease to be "constitutional," "liberal," "democratic," and "American," in the understood sense of those terms, but will become in reality a new hybrid system that is "post-constitutional," "post-liberal," "post-democratic," and "post-American." Too bad we all have our vices: Wish he were still here, but he sure left a gift. ////////////////////Elvis went in much the same way. I think drugs got him. But not until his guts had long since poured out over his belt.We fly two wings: discipline and faith. Rely on either too much and the plane goes down.I have heard pastors talk about how people will discpline some particular illformed desire without coresponding acts of faith. The consequence is that the desire just squirts out in some other ill formed direction.According to this blurb in book by Jerry Bridges of Navigators:Funny how the exceeding riches of God's grace seem to run out the moment we're saved. From then on, we tend to base our relationship with Him on our performance rather than on His grace.Of course, God continues to deal with us on the basis of His grace, whether or not we understand it. It's just that when we don't, we forgo the abundant freedoms that come from not having to measure up.The product of over 10 years of Bible study, Transforming Grace is a fountainhead of inspiration and renewal that will show you just how inexhaustible and generous God's grace really is-you'll never be able to ask for too much, need too much, hope for too much, or even sin too much. Like a never-ending stream of ocean waves crashing on the shore, His grace "superabounds" toward you without measure.
