An "Osama is dead" report hits the news
France's Defense Ministry said a secret reports that Osama bin Laden had died could not be confirmed. A French regional newspaper, L'Est Republicain, published a report quoting a French secret service report as saying Saudi Arabia is convinced al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden died of typhoid in Pakistan last month. (Reuters). The Australian, citing its own correspondents reports that US officials cannot confirm reports, leaked from French sources, that Osama bin Laden has died.
Agence France Press adds that "information gathered by the Saudis" indicates that bin Laden "might have succumbed to a very serious case of typhoid fever resulting in partial paralysis of his lower limbs while in Pakistan on August 23, 2006. His geographic isolation provoked by constant fleeing is believed to have made medical assistance impossible (and) on September 4, 2006, the Saudi security services received preliminary information of his death."
Commentary
Just thought this might be an interesting snippet. Consider the number of times OBL has been reported deceased, it's probably best to see where this one will go. But it's also useful to remember that, as in Zarqawi's case, death comes to everyone.

It's all from one source: the French DGSE. The reports, whether substantively true or not, suggest the Saudis have a man in Bin Laden's camp and the French have a man in the Saudi camp. The supposed date of OBL's death would have been about 3 weeks ago, in a remote border area. Personally, I think it is unlikely because the reverberations of his death within the Jihadi community would have been felt. But then, maybe the surviving leadership is still trying to figure out what to do, if the news is true. Nothing to do but wait for more info.

Kerry endorsed the release before he unendorsed it and then said he had "misspoke" and endorsed it kinda,maybe.

As I noted a week or two ago, aQ because this will lead to a chant in the MSM, UN and Liberal Establishment everywhere that the "War on Terror" is now over. This allows regrouping,rearming and planning time to aQ.
Even if ObL is dead, his sidekick, the educated, homicidal munchkin from Pyramid-land, is still around and, likely, hatching his next bit of genocidal fun and frolic.

At this point in time I don't think too many people would buy into the idea that the war on terror is over simply because OBL has or has not died.

What more could all the actors reporting want then target #1 to disappear so the end to GWOT can be pronounced, who here right before the elections would benefit from OBL being pronounced dead, would take a lot of wind out of the GOP re-election pitch, won't be the first time some of these foreign government wanted a certain election result here.
Right, so the timeline as I understand it, is Pakistan doesn't ask and doesn't tell when bin Laden uses it to hide in; Pakistan gets tired of putting on a pretense of fighting the Taliban; Pakistan announces flat-out that it's offering the Taliban sanctuary if the terrorists promise to behave themselves; included in this sanctuary agreement is the promise to protect bin Laden; the US starts to consider whether that part of Pakistan is actually Pakistan any more; so if it's not Pakistan can we either go in and start killing Taliban or bomb them back to pre-Stone Age ...
and suddenly bin Laden becomes dead so there's no need for pre-Stone Age bombing.
I'm just not seeing Pakistan's fingerprint on the "bin Laden" dead story. And I wonder if Musharref has enough money to buy off the oil ticks to make it happen.
Interesting that bin Laden's cause of death is organ failure, which is sorta/kinda like the liver problems/dialysis he's been rumored to be having for years now.

One would assume someone would have dragged his rotting carcass to US authorities and claimed the reward (or maybe just sawed off his head and brought it in).
