The War on Christmas Lawn Decorations

Subhead: Inflatable Santa beheaded. The WSJ reports:

Disgruntled neighbors complain of everything from traffic to wasted electricity. In places like Redding and Aurora, Ill., people called for the city to crack down on loud music or decorations that linger after holidays. Police in some areas of the country even report that the growing number of blow-up Santas adorning people's yards are targets for stabbing and other forms of violent deflation. ...

Police in some areas are also saying that the large inflatables -- which can range from 4 to 12 feet tall -- are attracting the attention of vandals who like to poke holes in them and deflate them. Last year in the Cincinnati area, two men were arrested after being caught on video stabbing a Frosty the Snowman with a screwdriver. This month in Lancaster, Pa., someone sliced the head off an inflatable Santa that the Ide family had in their front yard.

"The decorations were for people to enjoy, but I guess it didn't happen like we had hoped," says Jessica Ide.

One of the cable channels has been running a special the last week or two about people who over-decorate for Christmas. They talk to people about how long it takes them to put everything up (starting in October); how much their electricity costs for the month of December (thousands of dollars); and what happens when one house melts down the city's system from overload (the city upgrades the system especially to meet the demand of this one homeowner, and then bills him for the upgrade).

Several of the homeowners are broadcasting music to go with their decorations which passersby can dial into on their car radios, thus sparing the neighbors the noise pollution of hearing "White Christmas" played and replayed 400 and eleventy two times a day for four weeks.

It's sort of fun to go and see these light shows, but I'd sure hate to be the neighbor of someone who's putting them on.

There are much worse neighbors than these.

Want to bet that the stabbings or "beheading"s of people's decorations were done by the "self-described" "more tolerant" left?

However, I do draw a line at broadcasting loud Christmas songs (the same ~ 10 songs repeated since dusk to midnight). My next door neighbor did it the first year they moved in. Somebody else complained (We didn't), and they never did it (the songs) since.

Yes, these are probably mostly left-wing teenage punks and some deranged older moon bats. Destruction of private property and trespassing is still against the law.
